Part Three

Before I can even sit up we are rushed by several people, they grab me hoisting me off the ground and dragging me out of the room.

I kick and thrash trying to get away from the hands holding me, but it’s no use. They have me in a vice like grip I start to yell “What the fuck is going on? Who are you, people? Let me go.” They just ignore my struggles and shouts as they cram a sack over my head plunging me into darkness.

It feels like hours pass as I sit there with the hood over my head and my hands bound behind my back. After half an hour I gave up trying to get loose its just no use.

‘What the hell has happened in my life in the last twelve hours?’ I think to myself. ‘This morning all I had to worry about was my exam, and now I’ve been kidnapped.’

“Shit, my exam, it will be over by now. Four years wasted.” I say aloud.

“Exams are the least of your worries now Tom.” A voice says from the far side of the room.

The sudden break in the silence scares the crap out of me, and I let out a little scream, more a battle cry really. “Who is there? What do you want with me? Why have you kidnapped me?”

“You are here for your own protection and to save the world.” says the voice. “Also you can take the bag off your head now.”

“Oh sure, why didn’t I think of that?” I say, sarcasm dripping from my tongue like venom “Are you stupid? Can’t, you see I’m completely tied up, and can’t move my fucking hands.”

There is a snort of derision from the voice, “You have some fight in you after all.” They say as the whip the hood of my head.

I blink several times trying to get my eyes adjusted to the brightness of the room. When my vision clears I see a tall man standing in front of me dressed in, what looked like, military uniform. “Who are you?” I ask.

“I’m Harry Robinson. I’m the commander of this base.”

I look at him slightly shocked that I had gotten an actual answer from him. “Ehm…. Base?”

“Why am I here? Why did Sarah kidnap me?” I ask.

He shakes his head “You may have some fight in you, but you don’t have a lot of common sense, do you? You really think saving you from the Shadebeast that was coming to eat you counts as kidnapping?”

I look down at the floor a little sheepishly, “Well when you put it like that…” I mutter.

“Mmhmm.” He replies.

“Why have I been shackled then if I haven’t been kidnapped?” I ask.

“The transport gate that you arrived through can have some… side effects, on certain people. So we had to restrain you so that you didn’t hurt yourself or others.” He says.

“Ok, can you take them off now?” I ask, a little confused what he means by side effects.

“In a little while, after the medical team and psychics have checked you over to make sure there are no side effects.”

It takes a moment for his words to penetrate my skull “Wait, what? Psychics?”

“It’s nothing to worry about they will just do a quick scan to make sure you are alright.” He says reassuringly

“That’s not really my issue here. Psychics aren’t real!” I say flatly “They are all phonies, there is no such things as psychics.”

He lets out a chuckle “I think you will find that a lot of things you thought weren’t real actually are. What do you think the Shadebeast was? A Bear?”

My mind starts racing, ‘Monsters aren’t real!’ I think to myself, ‘It was a gorilla on steroids or something. Supernatural things don’t exist.’

As if he can read my thoughts he says “They are real,” a sense of weariness seems to flood over him. “They are all too real.”

Silence tangibly penetrates the room as these words hang in the air. We sit there for a few moments before he speaks again. “Ok let’s get you checked over.”

He takes me out of the room and into an examination room, where a team of doctors and nurses poke and prod at me from all angles for at least an hour.

After they give me a pass on all fronts, the psychics come in. They really freak me out. There are three of them, and all they do is sit and stare at me, without blinking for fifteen minutes. It doesn’t take long for the skin on the back if my skull to start crawling.

Without a word they stand up and leave the room, I’m alone again for ten minutes before Harry comes back in smiling. “You passed.” He says as he reaches into his pocket pulling out a key. He quickly removes my restraints, and I start to rub my wrists.

“Damn that feels better.” I say “So what now? Can I go home?”

“I’m sorry Tom, you can’t go back again. It’s not safe for you there, not yet at least. They know who you are now.”

“Who knows who I am?” I demand “What do you mean ‘who I am’ I’m just a student.”

Before he can respond the door behind him opens, and a woman walks in. Harry snaps to attention “Ma’am” He says as he salutes.

“At ease, General.” She says. He drops his hand and stands behind her as she looks at me. Her golden eyes focus on mine, and I feel the bottom fall out of my stomach. “The reason you are here is quite simple, Tommy. You are here because you are the last of the Guardians.”

I stare at her in utter disbelief. ‘This can’t be possible.’ I say to myself ‘This is not possible’ thoughts start racing through my head, a million questions thundering to be asked but all I can manage is “Mum?”

More to come….

  1. Wow this seems to be filling in to be a longer exciting story. I love secret destiny stories. I’m thinking any day now they’ll come and tell me I’m Wonder woman. The last shorter fatter amazon lady! Lol
