The Reaper

He pursues me all the time

All I want to do is drink some wine

But I need a clear head

Or else I will be dead

I keep him in my rear-view

But he follows no matter what I do.

You can’t out run him

He is always there

The Spector of death the one they call Grimm

There is no malice in his intentions

He doesn’t chase you for spite

Because without the darkness there is no light

Some people need to heed the advice

Everyone has an appointment with the Reaper

So go out and live your life.

The pursuit is part of the game

Being chased by the one with no name

He waits for the life you live to be over

And he always accepts the blame.

Death is the great leveller

Everyone has the to go

No matter who you are,

You will dance with the reaper.

The chase goes on but I don’t want to go

I will keep running

I have to be cunning

Keeping away from the reaper

Until it’s my time

  1. I love it when the reaper is being personified or made into a relatable character. Something about that makes me smile. I guess it makes death less frightening, I don’t know. Now here you have made him into an honorable person, an innocent who just went in to work.
The recent example of this I saw in Show Yourself music video by Mastodon. It is really interesting, check it out if you can.

      1. Its the Charley Davidson series by Darynda Jones. Charley is part grim reaper/ part investigator and she has regular cases on Earth and in the spirit realm. She also has some very hot dealings with the son of Satan. Its paranormal romance/humor/thriller. 11 books in the series so far.

          1. Oh no! That’s not the book you’re trying to get published now is it? They’re pretty great! The 12th book comes out on Halloween.
