        1. The ideal day.

For dinner tonight I had a half pizza crunch.
Which is half a cheese and tomato pizza deep fried in batter and chips. It was good

          1. What??! I love pizza! Like seriously, I went like six months where I ate pizza six days a week and it never got old (my roommate on the other hand… had issues). But deep-fried?? Whaat?!
            god. Now I want pizza.

            1. Come to Scotland we can deep fry anything. The deep fried Mars Bar is not a myth it really exists and it is utterly disgusting
Deep fried pizza on the other hand is amazingly good

            2. Oh, I would so love to come visit! It can’t be that different from Alaska, in terms of weather/climate, right? Are you offering me a couch to crash on?? I was actually just looking at tickets a few days ago to come see, well, the entire area. Scotland and parts of the UK, I should say.

              Like

            3. Well having never been to Alaska I can’t say for sure (I’m picturing a frozen tundra with polar bears roaming about delivering the mail) but here it’s not as bad it’s cold and wet but can get warm on occasion.
I have a spare couch as long as you don’t mind cats and a super cute baby stumbling about.

Where were you thinking of going to visit?

              Liked by 1 person

            4. I don’t fully know. I’m in research mode right now! Suggestions?? Where I live there is muskeg but no polar bears. I think it’s about 30* outside right now. Not too bad. Alaska is a huge huge state, so there’s all kinds of weather and terrain. I live near the ocean so it’s fairly mild winters and mild summers. Farther north and inland it’s cold and dry winters and hot summers. Farther south is wet wet wet.
Cats and a baby are just fine in my book. Unless I get shit on by either. I could handle piss but not shit, lol. I kidding. I mean, I wouldn’t want to be shit on, but I don’t seriously think it would happen.

              Liked by 1 person

            5. Yeah that weather sounds about the same as here. What is a muskeg?
I’d recommend Edinburgh, fort William, Glencoe, the Highlands, there isn’t much where I am other than the Kelpies but it’s central to everything else. Have to check out Loch Ness and Loch Lomond it’s beautiful up there. Can sit on the shore of the Loch for hours just soak it in, and the rain,
The cats and baby are well trained the may jump on you but not crap on you

            6. Muskeg is what we call a northern bog. Mostly deep moss growing in hummocks sometimes some very sad looking spruce trees try to survive too. But wonderful for berries! 😋
I’m a way out in the boonies girl, so no city stuff for me but I’d definitely check out some Lochs. Anything with peace and quiet. I’m going to check out your suggestions.

i wouldnt completely discount the city Edinburgh has the castle Arthurs Seat and loads of history, the ghost tours are particularly interesting and spooky

            8. Ummm… isn’t there like 500,000 people in Edinburgh?? I don’t do crowds or noise or lights. Well, small doses like concerts I can sometimes handle. But cities are a big no for me! It takes me an hour to get to my closest town and there are about 5,000 people there. That’s plenty big enough! LOL

            9. To be fair the only time you get that many people out the street at one time is on Hogmanay and there is no chance I’d be there for that. But normally it’s not too bad. But I can understand stand what you’re saying I think I’d go mad in the seclusion that you have daily it would drive me mad

I could handle no people for the rest of my life – my town has 28000 people approx, and to get to a bigger town is 1500km’s as the crow flies in any direction … Whenever I visit the big smoke I can’t wait to leave …

            13. In my defense, I do live closer to a tiny town. Takes about mmmm maybe one minute to drive thru the main drag. I believe the population is around 500. Mind you, this is Alaska so that includes over 200 sq miles of land (550 sq km). And to be honest, I miss living further out. Still too close to civilization some days 😉

            14. Well that’s understandable if you’re used to isolation I can see why big cities may not be your first choice

How do you handle the prospect of 4 months of ice and snow and freezing cold? Where I live it hasn’t rained since January and we rarely have clouds … every day is outdoors activity day, almost bar none, year round. Admittedly it gets to the mid 40’s for a week or to at a time (celcius) but you get used to it. Do you get used to the cold in a similar way? It seems so much more restrictive …

    1. I don’t know about Colin, but I’m outside every single day. -40F to +70F. I’m used to it. I have about 5-6 months of snow and cold here. But then, I really don’t like summer, so this works for someone like me. 😊

    2. It can get cold here down to about – 15°C and an extreme here. I live in central Scotland pretty much at sea level and we have the oil refinery here that always warms up the atmosphere by a couple of degrees anyway so it’s rarely that bad.
When it comes to rain it’s rained here every day for the last 3ish weeks and it doenst really put a crimp on things you just putt a jacket on and grab a brolly. Its only water it won’t kill you and you can always get a hot shower when you get home.
Its all about being acclimatised to the weather I’ve lived with this my whole life so it’s the norm for me. You just get on with life that’s about it.
I would hate to have the temperature in the high 30 I would melt in that.
I’m Scottish we aren’t designed for heat

    3. draughtrider says:

I’ve seen snow twice … I can’t imagine 6 months of it, riding road bikes and adventure bikes in the snow just doesn’t seem like a working proposition. The temperature here goes down to -5 some mornings in the middle of winter, but 0 to -2 is more common again only in winter – daytime in winter is still in the 20’s C, usually cloudless.

I don’t mind rain so much, though riding fast in the rain can sting a bit even through a summer jacket. I haven’t heard anyone use the word “brolly” since my father passed away! I can hear it in his voice. Strange. Sometimes the smallest thing takes you back.

Summer here can be bakingly hot, but it’s “a dry heat”. People not used to it tend to stay indoors in the air conditioning, so maybe it’s the antithesis of being snowed in with the end result the same – taking refuge in a nice place and using lots of energy to keep it nice. Though you can put more clothes on to keep warm – theres a limit to how much you can take off to keep cool 🙂
