This is me

Last night I went to the cinema with the wife to see The Greatest Showman. If you haven’t seen it or heard of it, it is the story of how P.T. Barnum set up the circus. Now based on what I have gleaned about the man himself before seeing the film it is, I have an inkling its only about 10% accurate to history.

But that doesn’t matter it is a fantastic film with some absurdly catchy songs.

One of the songs, in particular, really got me. It reminded of a time in my life when I was worried about what everyone thought of me, I would hide away who I really am. I wasn’t myself, I was miserable, depressed and yes suicidal.

I’ve spoken about this before, I got help from friends, loved ones and professional support. My attitude has really changed now I don’t give a damn what people think of me. If you don’t like me. Too Bad.

If you want to blame me for you for things that are not my fault. fuck off

I’m not scared to be seen I make no apologies, this is me, you don’t like it the door is over there.

So, this song This is Me really speaks to me now. It is who I am.

I make no apologies for it, you take the hump, fine on you go. I won’t change who I am for anyone ever again.

I’ve changed for the better, the only one that changes me now is my daughter, and you are damn sure she is going to grow up learning this lesson.

Here is the song that I am talking about

If you haven’t seen the film go and see it, I loved it. So much that I went and bought the soundtrack.

[Note: I just found out while writing this post that this song has been nominated for the “Best Original Song” Oscar. I hope it wins]
